The Finnish writer Hannu Rajaniemi holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Oulu, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from the University of Edinburgh. While in Edinburgh, he joined Writers’ Bloc, a writers’ group whose membership also included Charles Stross.
Rajaniemi’s debut science fiction novel THE QUANTUM THIEF introduced thief Jean le Flambeur received almost universal praise, winning the Tähtivaeltaja Award for best science fiction book published in Finnish and garnering a John W. Campbell Memorial Award nomination. The following two novels THE FRACTAL PRINCE (2012) and THE CAUSAL ANGEL (2014) also featured le Flambeur. WORDS OF BIRTH AND DEATH and HANNU RAJANIEMI: COLLECTED FICTION compiled much of his short fiction.
All of us at Tachyon wish the charming Hannu a happy birthday, full of wonder and amazement.
