Happy birthday to the extraordinary Alastair Reynolds

Beginning in 2000 while researching astronomy and astrophysics for the European Space Agency’s main research establishment in the Netherlands, Alastair Reynolds published the first four volumes of the acclaimed Revelation Space series: Revelation Space (2000), Chasm City (2001; winner of the British Science Fiction Award), Redemption Ark (2002), and Absolution Gap (2003). Later he added the Prefect Dreyfus Emergencies to the series with The Prefect (2007) and Elysium Fire (2018). After leaving the Agency in 2004, he became a full time writer and continued his impressive output of which included the Poseidon’s Children series (Blue Remembered Earth [2012], On the Steel Breeze [2013], and Poseidon’s Wake [2015]), Pushing Ice (2005), Terminal World (2010), Harvest Of Time (2013), SLOW BULLETS (2015), The Medusa Chronicles (2016 with Stephen Baxter), and Revenger (2016) and its sequel Shadow Captain (2019).
Reynolds’ numerous short stories have garnered him Seiun and Sidewise awards. Much of his shorter work have been collected in Zima Blue and Other Stories (2006), Thousandth Night and Minla’s Flowers (2009), Deep Navigation (2010), and Beyond the Aquila Rift: The Best of Alastair Reynolds (2016).
