Fantasy Cafe shares excerpts from each volume and hosts a giveaway!

Peter Beagle says it perfectly himself in one of his stories: “…the artist isn’t the magic. The artist is the sight, the artist is someone who knows magic when he sees it.” To our everlasting benefit, we get to see the magic that he did.

Girl Who Reads

I am thoroughly enjoying THE ESSENTIAL PETER S. BEAGLE, a two-volume collection of the award-winning author’s short stories. As a child I loved his novel, The Last Unicorn, and am delighted to find the same feats of imagination in the short stories. In “Lila and the Werewolf,” a young man, Farrell, is distraught to learn that his new girlfriend, Lila, is a werewolf. His gift is for acceptance, but the problems of lycanthropy multiply speedily.

Thornfield Hall Redux

Regardless this collection is still fantastic. I’ve already requested copies for my birthday and I will 100% reread them. I cannot wait to return to the story about the backwoods dragon breeders – I live in moonshine country so that really amused and delighted me.
