Happy birthday to the award winning editor Gordon Van Gelder

From 1997 until 2014 Gordon Van Gelder served as the editor and eventually publisher, a role he still maintains, of THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION. During his tenure, he won two Hugo and World Fantasy Awards. Van Gelder’s time as the managing editor of THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF SCIENCE FICTION from 1988 to 1993 garnered him several Hugo nominations.
Van Gelder has edited several anthologies of stories that first appeared in F&SF including THE BEST FROM FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION: THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY ANTHOLOGY (1999 WITH EDWARD L. FERMAN), THE VERY BEST OF FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION: 60TH ANNIVERSARY ANTHOLOGY (2009), and THE VERY BEST OF FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION: VOLUME 2 (2014). He’s also edited WELCOME TO THE GREENHOUSE (2011), LONELY SOULS (2013), and GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY (2017).
