All-in-all, a solid collection of stories that does a nice job of exposing some new facets of Williams’ literary talents. Even with the few that didn’t work, The Very Best of Tad Williams is a better collection than most authors could ever hope to produce.

The Very Best of Tad Williams is just that

At SF Signal, Rob H. Bedford declares that “The Very Best of Tad Williams is just that, a retrospective of a superb writer/storyteller.”

An essential addition to the bookshelf for fans of Tad Williams and also a great opportunity for new readers to sample the breadth of his storytelling prowess.

Some of these tales are also very squarely in the horror genre and many of the author’s novels have featured scary or horror elements, but none have truly been flat out horror. Again, I’d love to see a full-out horror novel from him. What I’m getting at is that Tad Williams can really write stories of any length and from any branch of the Speculative Fiction tree; proof of that is The Very Best of Tad Williams. The best of these stories have me hoping readers will get to revisit them in some fashion or revisit their genre at greater length like Horror or Space Opera. Highly recommended.

Overall, a very enjoyable collection with most shorts earning a four or a five out of five from me. They work and fit together very well, with most having religious overtones, and cleverly taking tropes or well worn steps in fantasy and using them to their strengths.

The Spanish magazine La Espada En La Tinta is very excited about The Very Best of Tad Williams.

Countless followers of Tad Williams are in luck, or at least those who can read English, because in May reach the independent publisher Tachyon Publications anthology of short stories by American writer in playing genres like epic fantasy, fantasy urban, the Young Adult or cyberpunk . This anthology not only collected short works previously published in anthologies published throughout the world, but only stories that have been published in limited editions, all of them featuring dragons, wizards, murderers, heroes, and other fantastic items subject to all we used to read. In Spain we have known for trilogies or series as “Sorrow and Thorn”, “Otherland” or “Shadowmarch” plus independent titles such as The Song of Tailchaser one such print titles that today is being bought in the market resale. In either case, Tad Williams is in Spain and beyond its borders, an icon of fantasy literature.

I really enjoyed this book of short stories. Some were happy and funny and made me smile. Other stories though, oh man, they made me shudder. They were down right scary! One of them was a movie script and it worked perfectly.

For the weekly ”Waiting on Wednesday” event (hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine), Bob R Milne at Beauty in the Ruins selected The Very Best of Tad Williams as his eagerly anticipated release.

Despite being a huge fan of Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and the Shadowmarch sagas, I’ve never read much of Williams’ short fiction, or his forays into other genres (although I will get to Otherland some day), so I’m really looking forward to diving into this collection.
