This is quite a cast of memorable characters: from Stan, who survived captivity with cannibals, although he sports a few less appendages, to Barbara, who carries secret messages etched on her bones courtesy of a scrimshander. Dr. Sayer is aware of their continued anxiety, and encourages the group to bond and work through their problems. Unfortunately, something dark and malicious is released through their sessions, and the danger escalates for the entire group…
Part horror, part psychological thriller, Daryl Gregory keeps us in uncomfortable suspense while managing to wrest a few chuckles along the way. If you like your horror fun, fast and frenzied, this is the book for you!

The Grand World of Books loves Daryl Gregory’s We Are All Completely Fine.
I really enjoyed this book. It involves these people who basically have PTSD after encounters with the paranormal. And they all get evaluated and invited to a counseling group by this mysterious counselor, who never tells anything about herself. And once counseling begins, then the stories come out…some slowly. Some quickly.

I loved that this could have been happening now, in some office in America. A group of people sitting around sharing stories of the monsters they’ve encountered. And these were just regular people, who had normal issues like you would expect normal people to have after encountering said monsters. Quite an interesting take, I think.
I definitely feel this deserves 4 ½ stars, and gladly recommend this to anyone looking for a different take on a paranormal story.

At Bibliotropic, Ria praises Daryl Gregory’s We Are All Completely Fine.
I often end up thinking things like this when I read novellas. I’m so used to novels that when I read something shorter, I want more. I want to read it all fleshed out and bigger and long enough to allow me to completely immerse myself in it for days without coming up for air. Novellas are so quick, it feels like I just have a chance to get my feet wet before it’s over. But that perceived weakness really is a strength, too, since the author has such a small space to cram a coherent story into, and the very fact that Gregory can do this just blows me away. We Are All Completely Fine doesn’t just tell the backstories of multiple characters, but also the overarching story that ties them together and keeps things moving forward. It’s multiple stories combined into one, and just take a moment to contemplate the skill that takes to accomplish.

What this all comes down to is that if you’re a fan of horror, or of anything Daryl Gregory has written elsewhere, or just of fantastic novellas that demonstrate exemplary storytelling, then you ought to read_We Are All Completely Fine_. The pacing is tight, not a word wasted, and for all that most of the immediate action occurs at the end, it never once feels slow or ponderous. Masterful writing and a sensational set of intertwining stories keep you reading, keep you pushing for details, and it’s a great thing to whet your appetite for more of Gregory’s superb writing. It’s early days yet, but this is already a strong contender for Best Novella in 2015’s eventual year-end Best Of lists!

On her blog Handful_Ofdust, author Gemma Files really enjoyed Daryl Gregory’s We Are All Completely Fine.
The first one I’ve completed thus far is something I actually already wanted to read anyhow, Darren [sic] Gregory’s novella We Are All Completely Fine, which centres around a support and therapy group for survivors of supernatural events. Said supernatural events all turn out to be related, of course; they’re based around incursions from a hell-like other dimension, one which has in its time infected this reality with its presence through a Silent Hill-like video game, a serial killer who opens his victims up and shrimshaws their bones, a djinni-worshipping cult, a family of cannibals trapping people to feed their mutating “spider-mother,” an Innsmouthian village full of weird creatures, etc. The attention to detail in terms of PTSD is really great, but so is the not-so-slow-burn plot, always building in the background and drawing you along headfirst.
